“In therapy, I see myself in the mirror differently.” - Ricky Williams

Therapy

I aim to create a safe and welcoming environment in my private practice, located at Robina Private Hospital Specialty Clinics on the Gold Coast. This is a space for teenagers and adults to be supported with life's challenges and to learn new skills.

I am trained in a range of evidence-based therapies, which can be tailored to each person's unique needs. However, I am an experienced Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) group facilitator and I tend to use DBT, Schema Therapy (member of the International Society for Schema Therapy [ISST]), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and a Relational Psychoanalytic framework of understanding in individual therapy. It's my belief that short-term work can help clients to get through crises, whilst commitment to longer-term regular therapy is necessary for meaningful change.

Although a diagnosis is not necessary in order to benefit from therapy, I enjoy working adults and adolescents dealing with:

- Depression, anxiety or stress

- Alexithymia (i.e. difficulty experiencing emotion)

- Physical health problems

- Functional neurological disorder

- Chronic pain

- Panic attacks

- Parenting stress and people with a desire for parenting skills

- Relationship problems

- Emotion regulation problems

*Please note. I DO NOT accept clients with: 1) eating disorders, (find eating disorder Psychologists at https://insideoutinstitute.org.au), 2) current legal matters, or 3) diagnosed intellectual disability.

Fees and Rebates

I see clients who pay privately, under a Mental Health Care Plan referral, under a Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) referral or who are funded via the NDIS. Session fees vary depending on the type, length, and location of the appointment, as well as the day of the week. Please email me for further information. Clients can ask their doctor for a referral under DVA or a Mental Health Care Plan.  Sessions under DVA are covered in full and each referral can be made for up to 12 sessions. Under a Mental Health Care Plan, eligible individuals can receive a Medicare rebate of approximately $96 per session, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year (there will be an out of pocket cost).

Face-to-face, telephone and telehealth sessions typically last for 50 minutes under DVA and Medicare. Whereas under the NDIS they typically last around 60 minutes.

NDIS clients' sessions focus on capacity building and are billed in line with the NDIS's set schedule of fees for this type of support. Please note, I do not do court reports or medico-legal reports.

Clients who pay privately may be able to take their paid invoices to claim a rebate their private health insurer, if applicable.
